The Islamic Republic of Iran has once again been ranked among the top 10 worst persecutors of Christians.
In the ranking, produced annually by our partner organisation Open Doors, Iran is one of only 15 countries where persecution is described as “extreme”.
Iran is ranked 10th this year, down from 9th last year, with Open Doors researchers explaining:
“Despite dropping a place in the World Watch List, the persecution of Christians in Iran has worsened.”
The other countries where persecution of Christians is described as “extreme” are: North Korea, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Eritrea, Syria, Nigeria, Pakistan, Libya, Afghanistan, India, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar and Mali.
