Iranian Christian refugee pens poem about pain of forced migration

The daughter of an Iranian Christian couple who fled Iran to claim asylum in Turkey has written a poem highlighting some of the difficulties refugees face as they await resettlement.

Elina Shirani, whose parents’ Witness Statement was published by Article18 today, was just 10 years old when her home was raided by intelligence agents who arrested and detained her father due to the family’s conversion to Christianity.

You can read the poem in full below. The quotation at the end is from the theme song to a well-loved Iranian children’s TV show called “My Grandmother’s House”.
